You Learn
By Edmund O’Neill
After awhile you learn the subtle difference between holding a
hand and chaining a soul…
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning and
company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts and
presents aren’t promises….
And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and
your eyes ahead with the confidence of a man, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on today because
tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans and
futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight…..
After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns
if you get too much….
So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure – that you really are
strong that you really have worth….
And you learn….and you learn…with every goodbye you learn.
Follow your dream – your life holds unlimited potential and
wonderful dreams….
You have the ability to attain whatever you seek…within
You is every potential you can imagine.
Always aim higher than you believe you can reach….
So often, you’ll discover that when your talents are set free
by your imagination, you can achieve any goal….
If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life,
accept it gratefully….
You can learn much from those who have gone before you.
But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and
head off in your own direction if your heart tells you
that it’s the right way for you….
Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever
you do, and never forget the value of persistence,
discipline, and determination.
You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming…..
